Compander Techniques
Jul 28th, 2007 | By Justin Kaiser | Category: Audio Production TechniquesIn a recent discussion with some associates, one mentioned that they had 2 favorite non-real-time filters in Adobe Audition 2.0.
-
Compander (in Dynamics Processing) and
-
Broadcast (in Multiband Compressor).
Here are the settings for the Compander… Try them out and let me know what you think…

I have lots of music from 20 years ago that I’ve been using Compander on as an overall last stage for completed songs. (Actually, compander, than normalizing to 98%.)I just select compander and use the ‘pre-set’ levels that Adobe chose. It gives the music a “Modern” punch, but occasionally, depending on the tune, it seems to introduce a little distortion in the vocal range, IF the singers are screaming / singing loudly. Other than that, I like it. I hope the compander was designed for this!Steve D.Dallas
