Is It Still Called Dubbing?
Jul 24th, 2007 | By Justin Kaiser | Category: Broadcast ProductionI was having a conversation with an associate of mine. Joey is in American Samoa and we were talking about how much dubbing we had to do… Even though that dubbing was coming direct off of CD into the computer. So the question is… Is it still dubbing? Here’s Joey’s take…
Dubbing: Recording audio into a device in real time using an analogue source. (Does not include a digital transfer of a file.)
Cross-Dubbing: Recording analogue audio from one machine to another in real time. (Does not include a digital transfer of a file.)
Bouncing: Recording audio from multiple sources onto a machine for the purpose of consolidating that audio into one “piece.”
Uploading: Transferring a file onto the internet for download or onto an automation system for on-air playback
Transferring: Digitally moving or copying a file from one machine to another using a network, thumbdrive or other means of digital transport
Ripping: Recording the audio (or video) from a source (usually a CD or DVD) in faster than real time
Have a great week!
