Heres a quick feature for the morning show that can be a good annual sell for the sales staff! Heres an easy sell to put in the morning show. Welcome to the World is exactly what the title says, Birth Announcements! Sell it to a hospital, have the new parents sign off at the hospital with all the other paperwork permision to announce the birth., and have the hospital send the info to you. Get 2 or 3 other sponsors and rotate them every couple of days throughout the week. Easy, moneymaking, and you attract new listeners who may not normally listen to your morning show! Make it run at a certian time each day and it will do the rest on its own!
Car Tunes
Excellent Drive Time Show!
If you arent already, then a Drive time feature durring the 5 oclock hour needs to be in place. Sure everybody else in town is doing it, but it doesnt matter! Its money to be made.
Make it all request, throw in a five after funny, (there are plenty of services out there for this) play a cheesy on air call in game to get the listeners more involved, then go out and sell a sponsor to headline the whole thing!
You dont have to abandon the revenue from everyone else, just run the sponsors ads first and put the business in the title of the show.
Call it the Express Auto 5 oclock Car Tunes or who ever you get!
Its just another easy way to make a few more bucks!
Smash or Trash
Yank it or Crank it, Hit or Sh**!!
Heres a good way to sell the local record store which refuses to spend any money!
Very easy and weve all heard of this one! Play new stuff, take calls, (like or hate,) from the listeners!
Keep winning songs in rotation (PDs) losing songs get burned at the stake!
Sponsor the segment by the local store and put the blame on them for giving you a horrible new release to debut on the air, or give them the credit for an awsome new tune and remind listeners to pick it up there when they go to look for it. Throw in a couple of spots and a live jock pormo throughout the day and ta-da!
Youve made the hard sell, lets pray the listeners like the new music, and maybe you can go back in six months and sell a bigger contract! Annual?
Midnite Muncher
Good way to make money in the late night hours!
If your station is like ours, your midnight hour is usually lite on the spot load. So why not sell a block of it to the local music store? Take the first 6 songs in the hour and play 6 from the same artist or group. Get the music from the music store you sell the feature to and plug them in the beginning and end! Throw in some promos in the daytime and it becomes an easy feature for the late night! Cheep sell and good for a few extra bucks.
On Friday nite take and play an entire album start to finish, (dead air and all). Just remember to promo the hell out of it so dial surfers dont think you lost your mind!
All Request Nightshift
Give the night time slot a name and make some money!
Easy way to make some fast cash! Take the evening slot 8-10, or 10 - midnight, and call it the Nightshift, (for all those working Joes who pull the late night jobs). Make it a free for all request show. Kind of your way to help make working late and missing the good television not as painful!
Its an audience driven show for the jock. Not alot of personality required, no humor or bits needed. Its a show which runs itself once you get the ball rolling.
The jock need only be personable to your target demo, and be able to push play on the CD player.
Get the show off the ground with a couple of cool give-a-ways (trips for a short mini vacation are good) and promote the hell out of it in the afternoon and evening when people are getting ready to go and work late, or are driving in to work their nightshift.
Show me the money? Sell a good sponsor for the show! Try to get one that can throw in some prizes away every now and again. Cha Ching!
Old School Lunch
Flash Back time!!
Heres an amazing way for a Top 40, or CHR to boost the luch hour through the roof. Take your lunch hour and call it the Old School Lunch. Play nothing but requests for the 80s. This is a great way to boost that 25-35 demo range.
We run this show on a station and it took a normally drab noon hour and made it one of the stations biggest features. The show started to dry out after a few months so we instituted the Blue Plate Special. The Blue Plate takes and focuses the requests on a specific topic. Topics like, hair bands, songs with a color in the title, girl groups, songs to do with religion.
Of course to see the dollar side to it, get a sponsor for the hour. Give away free lunches and lots of everything else you can spare out of the prize closet.
We also found that the show is a huge hit in the office, so if you have a fax machine to use for requests, USE IT!! If not, get one. The doctors offices in town and a couple of factory offices send long lists of songs each day to the Blue Plate, so it cuts down on research!
