Promotions - Valentines Day
Jan 14th, 2007 | By Justin Kaiser | Category: Broadcast PromotionsReal Life Billboard
Have a live billboard on Valentines Day where one lucky couple will exchange their vows. Have couples write or fax the station with the best reason for choosing them to get married on the billboard; winners get a wedding gown/tux, tux rentals, bridesmaid dresses, flowers, cake and a honeymoon. Potential sponsors would be a bakery, florist, wedding gown shop, tux shop and travel agency.
Romeo, Romeo
For Valentines Day hold a Greatest Lovers contest during morning drive. Take one male and one female caller and have them compete to see who can come up with the most names of all-time great lovers. The male and female caller alternate turns coming up with names Romeo and Juliet, Gracie and George, and so on. When one of the callers is stumped, the other one wins.
Whats in a Song?
Here are ideas that will work with any music format: on Valentines Day, give away prizes to the Xth caller to identify songs with the word love or heart in them. You can also play requests from listeners for love songs dedicated to their special someone, or play three-in-a-row song sweeps with a love theme.
Valentines For Veterans
Work with an elementary school class, a school supply store, a bakery and the local VA hospital or retirement center. Get the students to make special Valentines for the residents. Set up a field trip visit, complete with cookies and milk provided by the bakery. This is a great press coverage event.
My Heart Belongs To
Romance your listeners on Valentines Day. Design a My Heart Belongs to WXXX flyer, advertising a February 14th station promotion in it like an all dedication show or a big prize giveaway. Include coupons from local merchants for Valentines Day items (a box of candy, discounted lingerie, a bouquet special). If a direct mail campaign is beyond your budget, print up a one sheet flyer and distribute it at remotes or at sponsors locations.
Will You Marry Me?
Since many couples get engaged on Valentines Day, plan a bridal fair for one of the weekends shortly following February 14. Work with a local promoter to secure a location and the proper booth set-ups. Contact all businesses related to weddings, honeymoons and setting up a new home. Include jewelers, formal wear shops, florists, caterers, bakeries, printers, travel agents, department store bridal registries, bridal consultants and furniture stores. Put an advertiser package together that includes booth space and an on-air schedule. Have one of your DJs host a fashion show featuring the latest wedding gowns, tuxedos and bridesmaid dresses. You could hold a grand prize drawing from names of engaged couples attending the fair and give away a free wedding.
Hi, Honey!
On Valentines Day, do a co-promotion with a cellular phone company and a car dealership, offering a free three-minute cellular call to a loved one with every test drive.
The Things You Do for Love
Get together with several local retailers for a Valentines Day dedication promotion. Have retailers set ballot boxes in their stores, then have listeners write down their dedications and slip them into the boxes. On Valentines Day set aside an hour or so for each retailers dedications. Sell the spots in that hour to that retailer, and have jocks frequently mention that the hours dedications come from that store.
